French President Emmanuel Macron has hosted Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to a private dinner at the Élysée Palace in Paris.
The dinner, held on Thursday night, was disclosed on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
According to Onanuga, the meeting reflected the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and France, as well as the commitment of both countries to strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Tinubu also described the meeting as a reaffirmation of the strong friendship between Nigeria and France.
In a statement shared on his official X account, the President said the discussions reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to deepening cooperation and building a mutually beneficial partnership.
He expressed appreciation to Macron for his hospitality and friendship.
The meeting took place during Tinubu’s three-week annual leave in Europe. The President arrived in France on Sunday after spending the first part of his vacation in London.
The latest engagement comes against the backdrop of expanding relations between Nigeria and France in areas including trade, investment, security, energy, innovation and culture.
The two countries have also maintained high-level diplomatic engagements in recent years, with Tinubu paying a state visit to France in November 2024.
Macron’s private dinner with Tinubu provides another opportunity for both leaders to sustain discussions on strengthening the bilateral relationship between Nigeria and France.
