The Plateau Development Association, Kaduna State Branch, has strongly condemned the recent attack on Muslim travelers in Mangun, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, describing it as a senseless act of violence that undermines peace and unity in the region.

The victims, who were traveling from Zaria in Kaduna State to Quan’pan Local Government Area of Plateau State to attend a wedding, were ambushed in an incident that resulted in the tragic loss of lives and injuries.

In a press statement signed by the Chairman of the Association, Mr. John Killie Mangbit, the group expressed deep sorrow over the attack and extended condolences to the families of the victims, the Kaduna State Government, and the Zazzau Emirate.

“We unequivocally condemn this barbaric act. Violence such as this has no place in our society and threatens the values of peace, tolerance, and coexistence that we cherish,” the statement read.

The Association called on the Plateau State Government and security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly, emphasizing that accountability is crucial to preventing further attacks and restoring public trust.

“The rule of law must prevail. The families of the victims deserve justice, and those responsible must face the full weight of the law,” the Association stated.

In a call for calm, the group urged residents of Plateau State to remain peaceful and cooperate with law enforcement authorities to maintain order and foster unity across communities.

“We must not allow acts of violence to divide us. This is a time to unite, heal, and rebuild,” the Association urged.

The statement also praised the prompt and empathetic responses of key leaders, including the Governors of Kaduna and Plateau States. Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna was commended for his “statesmanlike response,” while Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang was lauded for his immediate visit to the victims and the scene of the attack, as well as his firm stance condemning the mob action.

“Governor Mutfwang’s decisive action, including providing medical attention to survivors and vowing justice, reflects strong leadership and concern for the safety of all citizens,” the statement noted.

Additionally, the Association acknowledged the efforts of the Plateau State chapter of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) for its swift and peaceful intervention, calling it a testament to the commitment of religious leaders to interfaith harmony and regional stability.

Reaffirming its dedication to peaceful coexistence, the Association stated, “Such acts do not represent the Plateau spirit, which has long been known for hospitality and peaceful living. We remain committed to promoting understanding and cooperation across all divides.”

The Plateau Development Association Kaduna is a socio-cultural organization that advocates for the welfare of Plateau indigenes residing in Kaduna State, with a strong focus on fostering peace and unity in the region.
