A passenger on a Kenya Airways flight from Nairobi, Kenya, to Lagos has died after becoming unresponsive shortly before the aircraft landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
Kenya Airways confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, October 7, saying the medical emergency occurred at about 9:20 p.m. Nigerian time on Tuesday, October 6, approximately 20 minutes before the flight was due to land.
According to the airline, the cabin crew responded by administering first aid and following established emergency procedures while the aircraft continued its journey to Lagos.
The aircraft landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at about 9:41 p.m., where medical personnel were waiting. After examining the passenger, the medical team confirmed that the individual had died. The airline did not disclose the passenger’s identity or cause of death.
Kenya Airways expressed condolences to the deceased passenger’s family and friends, adding that it was providing support in coordination with the family, local authorities and aviation regulators.
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has also been briefed on the incident, while police have taken over investigations into the circumstances surrounding the passenger’s death.
