A U.S.-based parenting influencer, Kelly Hopton-Jones, has shared details of a traumatic incident in which she accidentally ran over her 23-month-old son, Henry, with her car.

In an emotional post on Instagram, Hopton-Jones described the experience as a “true nightmare” for any parent.

According to her account, the incident occurred on Wednesday, April 15, as she was preparing to take her four-year-old daughter, Lily, out to pick up donuts ahead of a dance performance. Her husband and toddler son had initially remained at home.

She explained that as she was leaving the driveway, Henry suddenly ran out of the garage, and within seconds, the accident occurred.

“Our neighbours stepped in immediately and took Lily, and we rushed to the emergency room,” she wrote.

Medical evaluations later showed that X-rays of the child’s chest, legs, and neck were normal, while a neurological examination found no signs of head injury.

However, Henry sustained pelvic fractures, which are expected to take time to heal, along with minor abrasions.

Describing the moment as “the worst day of our lives,” Hopton-Jones said the family considers it a miracle that the injuries were not more severe.

“We keep replaying it, trying to understand how this could have happened when we were right there. I don’t have that answer,” she wrote, reflecting on the incident.

She added that while it is natural to dwell on “what ifs,” the family is focusing on recovery and coming to terms with what she described as a tragic accident.
