A Magistrate Court sitting in Sagamu has adjourned the trial of the driver involved in the road crash that affected former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua to June 2, 2026.
The court, presided over by Magistrate Olufunmilayo Somefun at Magistrate Court 1 in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, granted the adjournment to allow the prosecution to file fresh charges in the case.
This marks the third adjournment since proceedings began.
The defendant, Adeniyi Mobolaji, is facing a four-count charge, including allegations of dangerous driving causing death.
Other charges include reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention, causing bodily harm, and damage to property, all contrary to provisions of the Federal Highway Act.
Mobolaji is also accused of driving without a valid national driver’s licence.
In her ruling, Magistrate Somefun granted the application for adjournment filed by prosecuting counsel G. O. Ogunyomi, noting that it would allow for proper hearing of the case. The defence did not oppose the request.
Speaking after the proceedings, defence counsel Abiodun Olalekan said the adjournment was necessary to ensure justice for all parties involved.
The case stems from a fatal accident on December 29, 2025, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, where a Lexus SUV driven by Mobolaji collided with a stationary truck.
The crash claimed the lives of Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, while the boxer and the driver sustained minor injuries.
