Nigerian football legend Jay-Jay Okocha remains the holder of the record for the most successful dribbles completed by a player in a single FIFA World Cup match.

According to FIFA statistics, Okocha completed an astonishing 15 successful dribbles during Nigeria’s Round of 16 encounter against Italy national football team at the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States.

The feat remains unmatched more than three decades later and continues to rank among the most remarkable individual performances in World Cup history.

Okocha’s achievement places him ahead of several football greats, including Jairzinho, Paul Gascoigne, Eusébio, Johan Cruyff and Diego Maradona, all of whom recorded fewer successful dribbles in a single World Cup match.

FIFA records further show that Lionel Messi holds the all-time record for the most take-ons attempted and completed across multiple World Cup tournaments, with 125.

Meanwhile, Maradona remains the player with the highest number of successful take-ons in a single World Cup campaign, registering 53 during the 1986 tournament in Mexico.

Widely regarded as one of Africa’s most gifted footballers, Okocha earned global recognition for his creativity, flair and exceptional dribbling ability throughout his career.

His display against Italy at the 1994 World Cup remains one of the defining moments of Nigeria’s historic debut appearance at the tournament and continues to be celebrated as a benchmark for individual skill on football’s biggest stage.
