The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano has defended its decision to expel House of Representatives member Abdulmumini Jibrin Kofa, accusing him of abandoning the party to pursue political interests within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Chairman of the party in Kano, Suleiman Hashimu Dungurawa, said the lawmaker left the NNPP no choice after openly criticising its leadership and declaring his readiness to defect.
“We took the drastic measure of sacking Abdulmumini Jibrin Kofa from our noble party after understanding that he was clearly seeking a job in Abuja using our party,” Dungurawa stated.
He recalled that Kofa had granted an interview in which he attacked the NNPP’s presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and made derogatory remarks about the party and its supporters.
“Did we need to wait until he disgraced us before we acted on him? Somebody who kicked against a leader and also called the party and its noble followers names—our action was even belated,” Dungurawa added.
Responding to claims that the lawmaker was not given a fair hearing, the NNPP chairman argued that no such opportunity was necessary for a member who had already gone public with his disloyalty.
Dungurawa, alongside the Special Adviser to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Political Matters, Sunusi Sirajo Madobi, made the remarks while receiving hundreds of Kwankwasiyya Movement supporters from Kiru, Kofa, and Bebeji who paid a solidarity visit.
