The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has reduced the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, just 48 hours after a nationwide price hike.

As of Wednesday morning, NNPCL retail outlets in parts of Abuja, including Gwarimpa, Kubwa Expressway, Wuse Zone 6, and Wuse Zone 4, were selling petrol at N900 per litre — down from the N955 per litre price introduced on Monday.

An attendant at one of the outlets, who spoke anonymously to Daily Post, confirmed the adjustment: “On Tuesday we sold fuel at N955 per litre, but it is now N900.”

The N55 reduction follows public outcry over Monday’s price surge, which many attributed to increased ex-depot prices from Dangote Refinery and private depots.

Meanwhile, independent retailers such as Ranoil and Empire Energy have also reviewed their prices slightly. Ranoil in Gwarimpa now dispenses at N955 per litre, while Empire Energy offers petrol at N950 — down from N971 and N970 respectively.

However, MRS filling stations in Abuja have maintained a lower pump price of N885 per litre, according to statements made by one of its managers to the Daily Post.

The recent fluctuation underscores ongoing concerns about pricing volatility in the downstream petroleum sector, as Nigerians continue to navigate the ripple effects of deregulation and supply chain dynamics.
