Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has visited residents of Bin Mper Community in Kombun District of Mangu Local Government Area following the deadly attack on the community on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

The attack reportedly claimed several lives and left others injured, prompting the Governor to visit the affected community, condole with bereaved families and assess the security situation.

Addressing residents, particularly women, Governor Mutfwang described the attack as barbaric, senseless and unacceptable, expressing deep pain over the loss of innocent lives.

The Governor said the attack was not only an assault on the affected community but also a direct affront to his person and the collective resolve of the Plateau State Government to protect lives and property.

“This is not an attack on the community alone; it is an attack on me,” Mutfwang said.

He assured residents that his administration would strengthen existing security measures and adopt additional strategies to prevent further attacks on vulnerable communities across the state.

Mutfwang said the government would continue to work closely with security agencies, including the Nigerian Army and the police, to improve intelligence gathering, coordination and proactive responses to security threats.

He disclosed that some suspects had already been arrested in connection with the attack and promised that the government would follow the matter to its logical conclusion.

“The police have said that some persons have been arrested, and we will follow the matter to its logical conclusion,” he said.

The Governor gave the affected residents a firm assurance that they would not be forced from their ancestral land.

“We will do everything within our powers to ensure that you remain on your land. Nobody will take over your land,” he said.

Mutfwang also condoled with families who lost loved ones and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured during the attack.

He commended Plateau youths for their resilience and continued support for community security efforts, urging them to remain peaceful, vigilant and law-abiding while cooperating with security agencies.

The Governor stressed that tackling insecurity required collective action involving communities, traditional institutions, government and security agencies.

Earlier, Mutfwang received a security briefing from the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Nigerian Army, and called for more proactive, intelligence-driven and coordinated measures to protect vulnerable communities and prevent attacks.

The Governor also paid a sympathy visit to the Mishkagham Mwaghavul, His Royal Highness Da. John Putmang Hirse, where he expressed condolences to the bereaved families and the entire Mwaghavul Nation.

Responding, the traditional ruler thanked Governor Mutfwang for identifying with the community during its period of grief.

Da. Putmang Hirse described the attack as senseless and deliberate, noting that residents were attacked while asleep despite the peaceful nature of Mangu.

He assured that the Mwaghavul people would remain peaceful and law-abiding, stressing that no amount of intimidation would force them to abandon their ancestral land.

Also speaking, the President of the Mwaghavul Development Association Women’s Wing, Mrs Grace Joseph Gora, expressed sympathy to the bereaved families and appealed to residents, particularly women, to remain calm and support efforts by government and security agencies to restore peace.

Governor Mutfwang’s visit underscored his administration’s stated commitment to protecting communities affected by insecurity, safeguarding Plateau’s territorial integrity and ensuring that residents can continue to live safely on their ancestral lands.

The Governor was accompanied by senior government officials, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, Dr Mrs Abiodun Esiet, and heads of security agencies in the state.
