500 Trailers of Fertiliser for Farmers

At the Jos South Local Government Secretariat, Governor Mutfwang officially flagged off the distribution of 500 trailers of fertiliser to farmers across the state for the 2026 farming season.

The Governor announced that the fertiliser would be sold at a government-subsidised price of ₦20,000 per bag through a technology-driven distribution system designed to ensure transparency, accountability and equitable access.

Describing farming as an act of resilience, Mutfwang encouraged citizens not to be discouraged by security challenges.

“Even going to farm is part of our testimony of resilience. We are showing those who want to bring us down that no matter how they try, we will never give up. The land God has given us is a land of blessing.”

He urged farmers to take pride in Plateau’s agricultural identity, declaring that the state’s famous potato should henceforth be known as “Plateau Potato” rather than “Irish Potato.”

“We are going to farm this year. If it is maize, it is Plateau maize. If it is vegetable, it is Plateau vegetable. Whatever we produce must be identified with Plateau.”

The Governor explained that both the state government and the 17 local government councils jointly funded the fertiliser procurement, noting that the programme demonstrates how public funds are being invested directly in improving citizens’ livelihoods.

“It is your money that we are using to buy the fertiliser, and we are giving it back to you,” he said.

Mutfwang explained that the subsidy was introduced to cushion the impact of losses suffered by farmers during the previous farming season when produce prices dropped significantly.

He further assured farmers that the government had made arrangements to purchase farm produce after harvest to protect them from exploitative market practices.

“Whatever you harvest this year, by the grace of God, we will buy it from you.”

He also encouraged farmers to embrace collective farming for improved security.

“The time of going to farm alone is over. Let us go in groups. While some are working, others should watch. Together, God will reward our labour.”

The Governor expressed confidence that fertiliser and other farm inputs would remain available throughout both the rainy and dry seasons to sustain agricultural production.

According to him, the tissue culture laboratory would serve as the foundation for producing disease-free, high-quality potato seeds, while the processing centre would add value to potato production and strengthen the entire value chain.

He noted that Governor Mutfwang’s vision is to establish Plateau Potato as the state’s flagship agricultural product capable of positioning Plateau as Nigeria’s leading potato producer.

Bugama also disclosed that the Ministry has established 18 fertiliser distribution centres across the state, all connected through a technology-based distribution platform that enables government to track every bag of fertiliser from the warehouse to the final beneficiary.

He revealed that the administration increased fertiliser supply from about 250 trucks in previous years to 500 trucksthis farming season, reflecting Governor Mutfwang’s determination to expand support for farmers.

According to the Commissioner, every beneficiary receives a text message before redeeming fertiliser, ensuring complete transparency and accountability in the distribution process.

Tudun Wada Water Plant Brings Hope

In Jos North Local Government Area, Governor Mutfwang commissioned the Tudun Wada Mado Water Plant Project, describing it as the beginning of the end of decades of water scarcity experienced by residents.

The Governor said he was deeply moved after learning that women in the community often woke as early as 2:00 a.m. to fetch unsafe water from ponds shared with animals inside the wildlife park.

“Water is life. Today is a day of joy because we have seen the excitement on the faces of our women who have borne the burden of water scarcity for decades.”

He commended the Ministry of Water Resources, technical teams and community stakeholders for successfully delivering the project.

Mutfwang assured residents that the current water scheme is only the first phase, promising that the network would be expanded to serve more parts of Tudun Wada.

He also pledged accelerated work on roads in the area once the rainy season subsides.

“This is only the beginning of good things to come. The beginning of the end of your suffering has started. We have great plans for Tudun Wada.”
