Founder of Mount Zion Faith Ministries, Mike Bamiloye, has criticised calls for the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, to lead public protests over Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.
In a post shared on Instagram on Wednesday, Bamiloye described the expectations as unrealistic, noting that it was unreasonable to expect an 84-year-old religious leader to spearhead street demonstrations.
He said Pastor Adeboye had already spoken out on several occasions regarding the country’s security challenges, adding that the cleric has consistently condemned rising insecurity in Nigeria.
According to him, the role of religious leaders is primarily spiritual, and not necessarily to engage in political activism or lead public protests.
Bamiloye stressed that calling on the RCCG leader to physically lead demonstrations at his age “makes no sense,” while urging critics to be more considerate in their expectations.
He maintained that Pastor Adeboye remains focused on his spiritual responsibilities and has continued to pray and speak on national issues within his capacity as a religious leader.
The statement has sparked reactions online, with mixed opinions over the role of religious leaders in addressing national insecurity and public advocacy.
