A group under the banner of Concerned Mikang APC Stakeholders has distanced itself from a statement issued by former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. George Daika, insisting that he does not speak on behalf of the All Progressives Congress (APC) or stakeholders in Mikang Local Government Area.
In a statement signed by Hon. Thompson T. P on Tuesday, the group said Daika neither consulted nor received the mandate of party stakeholders before issuing a statement under the guise of “Concerned Stakeholders of Mikang LGA.”
The stakeholders questioned Daika’s authority to speak for the party in the local government, describing his views as personal and not representative of the collective position of APC members or the people of Mikang.
“Who elected or appointed Rt. Hon. George Daika as the spokesman of Mikang stakeholders or the All Progressives Congress in Mikang Local Government Area? His views remain entirely personal and should not be misconstrued as the collective position of the people of Mikang or the APC family,” the statement read.
The group maintained that the APC primary election in Mikang was conducted and concluded in accordance with party procedures, with the officially declared results reflecting the votes cast by delegates across the ten wards of the local government.
According to the stakeholders, the official results showed that Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel secured 3,364 votes to emerge victorious, while Hon. Timdi Nkat polled 2,822 votes.
They said the outcome represented the democratic choice of delegates who participated in the primary election.
The group therefore called on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC and the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, to disregard the statement credited to Daika, insisting that it neither reflected the position of Mikang APC stakeholders nor that of party members in the area.
They urged party leaders and members to focus on reconciliation and unity rather than reopening issues arising from the primary election.
According to the statement, the priority of concerned stakeholders is to strengthen the APC and work towards the party’s success in future elections.
The group also appealed to Daika and other party faithful to support the party’s declared candidate, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel, in the interest of peace, stability and development in Mikang Local Government Area.
“Mikang is greater than any individual ambition. This is the time for healing, reconciliation and collective commitment to the growth of the APC and the development of Mikang Local Government Area,” the statement added.
