Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, the wife of Iran’s slain Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has died after succumbing to injuries sustained during recent US‑Israeli airstrikes, Iranian state media reported on Monday.
The 79-year-old had been in a coma since the strikes on Saturday that killed Khamenei, according to Press TV. The Times of Israel noted that she had been in a coma since Saturday and that she and Khamenei were married in 1964.
The strikes came amid weeks of escalating tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran. Iran responded by targeting Israel and Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia.
US President Donald Trump confirmed Khamenei’s death on Truth Social, calling it “justice for the people of Iran, and for all Great Americans, and those from many countries throughout the world” affected by the former leader.
Meanwhile, the US military reported that four service members have now died in the ongoing operations against Iran. According to U.S. Central Command (Centcom), the fourth service member had been seriously wounded during Iran’s initial attacks and later succumbed to injuries. Major combat operations and response efforts continue.
