In a recent court ruling, a 24-year-old butcher named Mathew Danjuma has been sentenced to one year imprisonment for stabbing his colleague. The judgment was delivered by Judge Shawomi Bokkos at an area court in Jos, the capital of Plateau state.

Danjuma, who admitted to committing the crime, was given the option of paying a fine of N50,000 instead of serving the full prison term. Additionally, the court ordered him to compensate the complainant, Umar Muhammed, with a sum of N35,000.

Judge Bokkos emphasized that the verdict aimed to discourage individuals from resorting to violence in resolving disputes. The case was initially reported to the Jos C Division on May 21 by Muhammed, who was the victim of the stabbing incident.

During the court proceedings, the prosecution counsel, Ibrahim Gokwat, presented evidence that the accused became enraged with Muhammed during a disagreement, resulting in the use of a knife as a weapon.

The offense committed by Danjuma is in violation of Section 241 of the Penal Code Law of Plateau State, as stated by the prosecutor. This ruling serves as a reminder of the consequences individuals may face for engaging in violent acts against others in the jurisdiction.
