A 31-year-old man accused of pushing his former girlfriend and their eight-month-old daughter off a 15th-floor apartment balcony in New York City has been arrested and was seen smiling as he was led away by police.
Angel Carrasco was arrested on Wednesday night, October 7, 2026, in connection with the death of 23-year-old Nathaly Ramirez in the Bronx. Ramirez died after falling from the balcony while holding their baby girl, who survived the fall and remains hospitalised.
Carrasco was seen smiling as he was escorted from a New York police station in handcuffs on Thursday, October 8, while angry bystanders shouted at him. He was later taken to court to face charges, including murder, attempted murder and assault. The allegations against him have yet to be determined in court.

According to law enforcement sources, Carrasco had reportedly visited Ramirez’s apartment with flowers in an attempt to reconcile with her. When the attempt allegedly failed, he became angry and pushed her and their daughter from the balcony before fleeing the scene.
The couple reportedly had a history of domestic violence incidents. Carrasco had previously faced charges following separate incidents involving Ramirez earlier in the year, according to reports.

Witnesses described hearing a man shouting before hearing a loud thud and a woman pleading for help. Investigators believe Ramirez may have cushioned her daughter’s fall with her body, contributing to the infant’s survival.
The tragedy has sparked outrage among residents, with community members remembering Ramirez as a hardworking young woman who attended Baruch College and worked at a consulting firm in Manhattan.
Authorities say investigations into the incident are ongoing.
