A Nigerian man has publicly apologised to citizens he says may have been influenced by his past political opinions in support of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that current national challenges have made him rethink his earlier stance.
He explained that while he does not consider himself a politician and only played a limited role in political discussions, he had strongly supported and predicted the emergence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2023 general elections at a time when many were uncertain about the outcome.
According to him, some individuals later reminded him that his commentary and political analysis may have influenced their support or voting decisions in favour of the APC. He said he initially saw no need to respond to such claims.
However, he noted that rising insecurity, kidnappings, economic hardship, and growing concerns about safety, particularly for children, compelled him to speak out.
He stressed that supporting a government should not prevent citizens from holding leaders accountable, adding that constructive criticism remains a civic responsibility.
The man further apologised to anyone who may feel disappointed or misled by his earlier political opinions, stating that Nigeria’s current realities demand stronger accountability, improved governance, and greater protection for citizens.
