Eight Killed, Several Injured as Gunmen Attack Plateau Community

At least eight persons have been killed and several others injured following a fresh attack by gunmen on Gwon-Ajang village in Foron District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident reportedly occurred late on Sunday night when armed assailants invaded the community and opened fire on residents gathered for a social event, causing panic and forcing people to flee for safety.

Eyewitness accounts said the attackers stormed the area and began shooting indiscriminately, leaving multiple victims dead and others with varying degrees of injuries.

A resident of the community, Bishop Iliya, said the attackers opened fire on sight, adding that the situation caused widespread confusion as residents attempted to escape.

He described the attack as tragic and called on security agencies to intensify efforts to protect vulnerable communities across the state.

The incident was also confirmed by the Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM-A), which said at least eight people were killed while more than 10 others sustained injuries. The group described the attack as part of a worrying resurgence of violence in the area and urged authorities to take urgent action.

The injured victims were reportedly evacuated to nearby health facilities for treatment, while security personnel have since been deployed to the area to restore calm.

As of the time of filing this report, the Plateau State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
