The Made-in-China Goods Traders Association of Nigeria has appealed to the Chinese government to ease visa processes and expand trade opportunities for its members, as part of efforts to strengthen commercial ties between Nigeria and China.

The appeal was made during an official visit to the Chinese Consulate General in Lagos, led by Consul General Yan Yuqing.

Speaking during the visit, the association’s National President and Patron, Chief Adigun Samuel, said the group has operated for over a decade with the aim of promoting Chinese-made products and deepening bilateral trade relations.

He stated that members have consistently engaged in lawful business activities that contribute to trade cooperation between both countries.

However, Samuel expressed concern that the association has not received adequate recognition or institutional support from the consulate, a situation he said has limited its ability to fully support members and achieve its objectives.

The group specifically called for smoother visa processing for both new and returning traders, especially those travelling for trade fairs and exhibitions in China.

He highlighted the Canton Fair, one of the world’s largest import and export trade exhibitions, as a key opportunity Nigerian traders should be better positioned to access.

Samuel argued that participation in such platforms would help members expand business networks, understand global trade standards, and enhance Nigeria’s representation in international commerce.

The association also requested scholarships, training programmes, and broader capacity-building initiatives from the Chinese government to support skills development and cultural exchange.

China remains one of Nigeria’s largest trading partners, with strong cooperation in sectors such as infrastructure, manufacturing, telecommunications, and consumer goods.

Despite this relationship, Nigerian importers have continued to face challenges around visa accessibility, a concern the association says needs urgent attention to deepen economic engagement between both countries.
