A legal ruling has now denied Real Madrid and Barcelona from using the iconic term ‘El Clasico’ to promote their matches against each other and when describing their fixtures.
Relevo reports that neither of the two LaLiga giants will be able to use the term anymore.
The Patent and Trademark Office in Spain have ruled that there is a risk of confusion between Real and Barca using the term, and the term already established by La Liga.
LaLiga refer to the game as “ElClasico”, but the office insisted that term is already too well established.
Forbes also reports that the office argued that the two clubs trademarking El Clasico would lead to an association between that, and La Liga’s long-standing trademark, hence their denial.
