The Labour Party Nigeria has formally designated its 2027 presidential ticket for candidates from the southern region of the country.

The party’s acting National Chairperson, Nenadi Usman, confirmed the decision during an interview with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, stating that no aspirant from northern Nigeria would be accepted.

“We have one certain decision that we have taken, and that is that we will certainly not field any aspirant from northern Nigeria. We have zoned the position to Southern Nigeria,” she said, adding that the party would follow democratic processes to select its candidate. “As for who, I can’t tell you now… Whoever the people like and vote for during the primaries could be the candidate.”

Addressing internal disputes, Usman said a court case challenging the dissolution of the party’s National Caretaker Committee had been dismissed, describing the ruling as “standing on truth.” She also noted that the party may review the dates for its upcoming congresses to accommodate a surge in membership.

On security concerns, Usman revealed that the party had petitioned the police following an attack on its office, expressing confidence that those responsible would be held accountable. She further urged members to embrace the party’s digital registration process, limiting manual registration to members in areas without mobile technology access.
