Kidnappers Demand N30m Ransom for Three Travellers Abducted in Taraba

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have demanded a total ransom of N30 million for the release of three travellers abducted along the Takum-Wukari Road in Taraba State.

The victims, identified as Abdulrasheed Mai Mota Hussaini, Ezekiel Elkanah and Mrs Wapuken Ika, were reportedly kidnapped on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at about 7 p.m. while returning from Takum town, where they had gone to purchase paddy rice.

According to reports, the victims were travelling in a convoy of two vehicles when they approached Jakundo village in Kufai-Ahmadu Ward. Four armed men were said to have emerged from the bush and ordered the travellers to stop.

The gunmen reportedly forced the occupants out of their vehicles before taking the three victims into the bush. Their whereabouts remained unknown as of the time of filing this report.

Sources disclosed that the abductors later contacted the victims’ families and demanded N10 million for each person, bringing the total ransom to N30 million.

The incident comes amid reports of other abductions in the area. Four traders from Kano were reportedly kidnapped along the Rafin Kada-Donga Road early last month, with their abductors said to have demanded N50 million for their release.

There was no immediate official confirmation regarding the status of the earlier victims or the latest abduction from the police as of the time of this report.
