A socio-political group, Fursum Online and Offline Voice of Impact, has called on stakeholders in Jos East Local Government Area of Plateau State to respect the existing zoning and rotational arrangement, insisting that it is the turn of Fursum District to produce the next member of the Plateau State House of Assembly for the 2027–2031 legislative term.

The group made the demand during a press conference held at Government Secondary School (GSS) Gora in Fursum District, where it emphasized the need to uphold fairness, equity, and longstanding agreements that have guided political representation in the area.

In its statement, read by it convener Shadrack Azi, the group anchored its position on the legacy of late Professor Yohanna Daniel Izam, whom it described as a symbol of justice, unity, and integrity. It noted that sustaining his ideals requires continued respect for collective decisions and peaceful coexistence among the people of Jos East.

According to the group, since the return to democratic rule in 1999, Jos East has operated a rotational leadership structure among its five districts—Fobur, Federe, Fursum, Shere, and Maigemu—a system it said has fostered inclusiveness, stability, and mutual understanding.

The group maintained that the current political cycle clearly places Fursum District next in line to produce the state lawmaker. However, it expressed concern over recent developments and speculations that could undermine the arrangement, warning that such actions may heighten tensions in the area.

It also referenced earlier grievances over the alleged diversion of a commissionership slot initially expected to be zoned to Fursum, noting that while the district accepted the outcome in the interest of peace, continued marginalization would no longer be tolerated.

“We are not calling for conflict, but for fairness, equity, and respect for agreements freely entered into by all stakeholders,” the group stated.

Beyond political concerns, the group highlighted pressing developmental challenges facing Fursum District, including poor road infrastructure and underutilized agricultural potential. It called on the government to prioritize road rehabilitation, agricultural development, and youth empowerment initiatives to enhance economic growth and improve livelihoods.

The group urged the Plateau State Government and all relevant stakeholders to uphold justice, preserve unity, and maintain the zoning arrangement to ensure sustained peace and progress in Jos East.
