INEC Registers 21 New Political Parties

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved
the registration of 21 more political parties bringing the total number
of registered political parties in the country to 67.

In a statement issued by the Commission and signed by a National
Commissioner and member Information and Voter Education Committee, Barr.
May Agbamuche-Mbu, yesterday, INEC gave the names of the registered
parties as follows: All Blending Party; All Grassroots Alliance;
Alliance for New Nigeria; Abundant Nigeria Renewal party; Coalition for
Change; Freedom and Justice Party; Grassroots Development Party of
Nigeria; and Justice Must Prevail Party.

 

Others are: Legacy Party of Nigeria; Mass Action Joint Alliance;
Modern Democratic Party; National Interest Party; National Rescue
Mission; New Progressive Movement; Nigeria Democratic Congress Party;
Peoples Alliance for National Development and Liberty; Peoples Trust;
Providence People’s Congress; Re-Build Nigeria Party; Restoration Party
of Nigeria and Sustainable Nigeria Party.

 

CVR: INEC dismisses two staff and retires one 

 

The Independent National Electoral Commission has summarily
dismissed two staff and sends one on compulsory retirement over the
alleged double registration of the Kogi State Governor, in the on-going
Voter Registration exercise (CVR).

 

According to a statement issued by the Commission yesterday, the
staff were charged for gross misconduct and properly investigated by the
Appointment, Promotion and Disciplinary Committee of the Commission.

 

The statement read in parts: ‘’Following reports of the alleged
double registration by the Governor of Kogi State in the on-going
Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, the Commission set up a
panel of investigation into the involvement of staff in the matter.
‘’The initial report submitted by the panel was referred to the
Appointment, Promotion and Disciplinary Committee which made
recommendations to the Commission.

 

‘’The Commission took the following decisions: i) Summary dismissal
of two staff for acts of gross misconduct, and ii) Immediate and
compulsory retirement of an Electoral Officer for acts of gross
misconduct’’.

 

The Commission further alluded to the immunity enjoyed by the
Governor which it said was the reason preventing his prosecution ‘’the
Governor of Kogi State currently enjoys immunity from prosecution’’, the
statement added.
