The Independent National Electoral Commission (Independent National Electoral Commission) has announced the postponement of its planned nationwide voter revalidation exercise until after the 2027 general elections.

The decision followed a meeting held on Friday, April 10, with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) across the country.

In a statement signed by the Commission’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, INEC explained that the exercise remains a key part of its mandate to maintain a credible and updated National Register of Voters.

He noted that the revalidation exercise is designed to verify and review existing voter records, ensure the accuracy of personal data, remove duplicate and ineligible entries, and strengthen the integrity of the voter register.

According to the Commission, the exercise will also give registered voters the opportunity to confirm their details and make corrections where necessary.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections, stating that the postponement was necessary in the interest of proper planning and effective implementation of electoral processes ahead of the 2027 polls.
