The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, said the
issuance of transferred temporary voter’s card to the Kogi State
Governor, Yahaya Bello, last week has not affected the criminal case of double registration against him.

The Kogi State Resident Electoral
Commissioner, James Apam, disclosed this on Thursday during an interactive session with newsmen in
Lokoja.

He said the issue of double registration against the governor was
still pending and had not taken away his right of transfer of his
registration details.

Recall that the commission had last year, accused Bello of double
registration, and said he would have been prosecuted but for his
immunity.

However, three INEC staff were indicted, two officials were dismissed, while an Assistant Director was suspended.

Apam said Bello applied for the transfer of his registration details
from Abuja to his Okene country home, noting that the application was
found qualified for transfer after it was subjected to legal scrutiny.

“The fact that he had been alleged to have registered twice does not
take away his right of transfer of the existing registered voters card;
when the time comes, INEC will do the needful,”
he added.
