the National telecommunications operator, Globacom, has
been declared the Nigerian Brand of the Year. The company won the award
at the Nigerian Television Authority – Integrity and Service Programme
(NTA-ISP) Award held at the Aso Villa, in Abuja on Tuesday night.
The
organisers said at the event, which was attended by several high profile
guests, that Globacom was chosen as Brand of the Year for its
pioneering role in the telecoms industry, describing it as the “African
Brand with Global Aspirations”. Globacom, they explained, was a modern
telecoms network offering unique and advanced products and services as
well as the most convenient and competitive data and voice price plans.
The organizers also recalled that Globacom had deepened internet
penetration in Nigeria through its nationwide fibre optic cable, Glo 1
submarine cable and the 4G LTE services which the operator had extended
to 33 locations across the country. Senator Abdullahi Adamu, who
represented the Senate President at the event, presented the Globacom
award to Mr. Mansur Opakunle, a senior officer in the Public Sector
Department of the company. Other Globacom officials at the event
included Mrs. Justina Abdulateef of Public Sector and Mr. Sola Mogaji of
the Marketing Communications Department. In its response, Globacom
stated that the secret of its growth was resilience, commitment to its
vision to be the best and its massive investment in telecoms
infrastructure. Globacom was the only private sector player that was
decorated at the event. The event was attended by the Secretary to the
Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, Acting Chairman of
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu, and
the governors of Kano, Bauchi, Imo, Nassarawa and Adamawa States,
amongst other personalities.
