Former Super Eagles striker Victor Anichebe is leading a takeover bid for English League One club Bromley Football Club.
Anichebe, who previously played in the Premier League for Everton F.C., West Bromwich Albion F.C. and Sunderland A.F.C., is reportedly in advanced discussions to acquire the newly promoted League One side.
Talks are ongoing with Bromley’s majority owner, Robin Stanton-Gleaves, as the South London club prepares for its first-ever season in English football’s third tier following two promotions in three years.
The club is understood to be seeking significant investment to strengthen its squad and remain competitive at the higher level.
During his playing career, Anichebe scored 27 Premier League goals across spells with Everton, West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland.
Since retiring from football, the 38-year-old has ventured into business as the owner of the Lumira Group. He recently backed a £20 million leisure development project near Liverpool, underlining his financial capacity as he pursues the Bromley takeover.
Reports also suggest Anichebe has already begun influencing the club’s recruitment strategy. Bromley have signed former Luton Town F.C. forward Victor Adeboyejo on a free transfer and secured defender Richard Taylor on a season-long loan from Bolton Wanderers F.C.. Both new arrivals are of Nigerian descent.
At international level, Anichebe earned 11 caps for Nigeria between 2008 and 2011, scoring his only goal in a 3–0friendly victory over Kenya in 2011. He was also a member of Nigeria’s Under-23 team that won the silver medal at the football event of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
