Women have been encouraged to embrace innovation, empowerment, and leadership opportunities as tools for growth and societal transformation.

The call was made during the 2026 Award Recognition Ceremony organized by Focus on the Family Foundation with the theme, “Give to Gain – Celebrating Women’s Gifts, Grace and Growth,” held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at The Parliament International Conference Centre, Lamingo Road, Jos.

Speaking at the event, Focus on the Family Convener, Rev. Evelyn Kanos said the ceremony was organized to celebrate and showcase the achievements of women from different sectors of society while inspiring younger generations to pursue excellence.

According to her, the event brought together women who have distinguished themselves in politics, education, family life, mentorship, humanitarian service, and other fields in order to provide role models for young girls and students.

“It is mind-blowing to see the work that women have done so far. I am passionate about family and passionate about womanhood. We invited schools because we want the younger generation to see women who have paved the way in different fields,” she said.

Kanos noted that women now have unlimited opportunities to excel in various careers and sectors, stressing that nothing should limit their aspirations.

Speaking on the role of women in Plateau State, she described Plateau women as hardworking, resilient, and committed to supporting their families despite prevailing challenges.

“The Plateau woman is hardworking. She is ready to do anything to support her home and family. What many women need is empowerment, financial support, and open doors,” she added.

She explained that the awards were designed to recognize women and individuals making meaningful contributions in society, including homemakers whose efforts often go unnoticed.

Kanos cited the recognition of Mrs. Sarah Luka for integrity and another woman for exemplary parenting despite being a stepmother, as examples of the values the foundation seeks to promote.

Guest speaker at the event, Dr. Hansatu Adegbite, National Consultant on Private Sector Partnerships with UN Women, urged women to pursue innovation, economic independence, and skills acquisition.

She emphasized the importance of skillful labour and entrepreneurship as pathways to financial stability and sustainable growth.
