The Kano State Police Command has arrested five persons over the alleged destruction of billboards and campaign posters bearing the images of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and other political figures in the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this while responding to questions from journalists on security measures and the enforcement of the state’s restriction on public horse-riding and processions.
According to the police commissioner, the suspects were arrested following investigations into the alleged destruction of political materials during a period of heightened tension surrounding public processions and horse-riding activities in Kano. He said investigations had been concluded and the suspects had been charged to court.
The arrests followed a public outing involving the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero. Bakori said reports received by the command indicated that some individuals accompanying the emir allegedly destroyed posters and billboards belonging to President Tinubu, Governor Yusuf and other politicians.
The incident has added to existing tensions surrounding the prolonged Kano Emirate dispute, amid ongoing security concerns over public processions and activities that could affect public order.
The police command said it would continue to take legal action against anyone found to have committed offences capable of threatening public peace or damaging property, while urging residents to comply with security directives.
