Two Miners Killed as Gunmen Attack Mining Site in Plateau

Two persons have been shot dead by suspected gunmen at a mining site around Kuru Jenta, near the boundary between Jos South and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026, while the victims were carrying out mining activities at the site. Both victims were said to be natives of Heipang District in Barkin Ladi LGA.

A member of the affected community, Weng Bulus, confirmed the incident and expressed concern that the victims were at the mining site during the hours of the curfew imposed by the state government.

Bulus urged residents to remain vigilant and comply with the restriction on movement, particularly advising miners to avoid night operations which could expose them to security risks.

Also reacting, the spokesman of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Rwang Tengwong, condemned the killing and called on security agencies to investigate the incident, identify those responsible and bring them to justice. He equally urged miners and other residents to avoid night activities and comply with security measures.

The incident comes less than a week after another attack at a mining site in Rakum, where several people were reportedly killed, further raising concerns over the safety of mining communities in the state.
