National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has claimed that he and the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, once offered activist Aisha Yesufu a House of Representatives ticket, which she allegedly declined.
Dickson made the statement during a stakeholders’ meeting of the party held in Abuja, amid ongoing internal disputes over the conduct of its primary elections.
The party has recently been embroiled in tensions following accusations of irregularities in its nomination process. The situation escalated after Yesufu, who had initially sought the party’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial ticket, publicly criticized the party leadership, accusing it of manipulation during the primaries.
In a post on her verified X account, Yesufu also alleged that Dickson was engaging in a political rivalry with the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing his actions as a “war no one is waging against him.”
Responding to the criticism, Dickson defended the party’s leadership and insisted efforts were made to accommodate Yesufu within the party structure.
“Talking about the FCT, do you know that Peter Obi and I offered Aisha Yesufu a House of Representatives ticket, but she turned it down? A House of Representatives seat that people are fighting for—she said she was too big for it,” Dickson said.
