Questions have surfaced among some supporters of Donald Trump regarding the circumstances surrounding the 2024 assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, despite official findings confirming the attack was real.
The incident occurred during a campaign event where a gunman opened fire, grazing Trump’s ear. The moment, in which he raised his fist and shouted “fight,” quickly circulated widely during the election season.
Investigations by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) identified the attacker as Thomas Matthew Crooks and concluded that he acted alone. The shooting left one attendee, Corey Comperatore, dead, while two others were injured.
Despite these findings, some figures within Trump’s political base have continued to raise questions about the incident. Among them is Marjorie Taylor Greene, who said there are unresolved issues that warrant further clarification.
In a post on X, Greene stated that while she was not calling the attack a hoax, there were questions about whether the suspect acted alone and whether more information should be made public.
The White House has dismissed such claims, maintaining that the shooting was a verified incident and warning against misinformation.
Comperatore, a 50-year-old retired firefighter, was killed while shielding his family during the attack, an act that drew praise from Josh Shapiro, who described him as a hero.
His widow, Helen Comperatore, has also called for answers regarding the security lapses that led to the tragedy.
Authorities have reiterated that Crooks, a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, acted alone and was shot dead at the scene by security operatives. Investigations found no evidence linking him to any wider network, though public interest in his motives continues.
