Music executive Ubi Franklin has denied allegations circulating on social media that he stole a luxury wristwatch while in Miami, United States, for Davido’s wedding over the weekend.

The rumours emerged on Wednesday after a blog report linked Franklin to the alleged theft. In a statement posted on his X account, the talent manager described the claims as “completely false and misleading.”

“Recently, I returned from my dear friend/sister’s wedding and I am currently preparing for my sister’s funeral this coming weekend,” Franklin wrote. “It is an extremely difficult and sensitive time for me and my family, but I feel it is important to address this matter directly.”

Explaining the events in Miami, Franklin said a man identified as Benny had approached him to sell a wristwatch, which he declined to buy after confirming its previous ownership. During the wedding service, Benny’s brother delivered another watch, which Franklin agreed to purchase and paid for in full.

“Given the busy circumstances surrounding the wedding, I was in possession of both wristwatches and wore the one he sent to me through his brother,” Franklin said, adding that he left Miami immediately after the ceremony to finalise arrangements for his sister’s funeral.

He said Benny later contacted him while he was airborne regarding the first watch, which he had not bought. Franklin insisted that he had paid for the watch he did take and denied ever stealing from anyone.

“Benny had earlier in the day debunked this news and yet it still kept spreading,” he added.
