Socialite and businessman Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has urged Nigerians of Igbo extraction to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.
Okechukwu made the call while addressing supporters in Imo State in his capacity as the state director of the City Boy Movement, a political support group backing Tinubu and his administration’s Renewed Hope agenda.
In a video shared on social media, Cubana Chief Priest claimed that Igbos now have greater access to the Presidency through Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, and said this was part of the reason he believes the South-East should support the President’s re-election.
“We Igbos now have access to Mr. President through his son, Seyi Tinubu. That’s why we’re doing everything to make sure he’s re-elected,” he said.
He also claimed that support for the All Progressives Congress was growing in Imo State, saying thousands of residents were registering with the party. He further described the state as firmly behind the City Boy Movement and Tinubu’s political agenda.
Cubana Chief Priest called for a different approach to political mobilisation, advocating a combination of lifestyle, social influence and grassroots political engagement to promote the President’s 2027 campaign.
His latest position is consistent with his recent shift from supporting Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election to openly backing Tinubu and the APC ahead of the 2027 poll. In February, he argued that supporting Tinubu could give people of the South-East greater political leverage and opportunities to negotiate for their interests.
The socialite previously acknowledged that his political allegiance had changed, saying he chose to support Tinubu because he believed the President had a stronger political structure and a better chance of winning the 2027 election.
However, his comments represent his personal political position and advocacy through the City Boy Movement and should not be interpreted as evidence that the entire Igbo community has collectively endorsed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
