
The Operation Safe Haven Plateau State has Banned the use of Commercial Tricycles popularly known as Keke Napep within the Jos metropolis from the Hours of 9pm to 5am Daily starting from Friday 26th August, 2016.
The commanderOperation Safe Haven, Major General Ri Nicholas, said the command will ensure complete compliance of the ban and has effectively communicated this to the leaders of the tricycle users to also inform their members and make them comply.
He futher said this was eminent following security reports that there was inflows of strangers into the state of people suspected to be Boko Haram members as some of the Keke riders don’t even know essential routs in the state and most of those who use commercial tricycle late at night are doing so as a means to commit various crimes.
The Major General said this was a proactive measure to protect a large number of the public.
Most residents in Jos, Plateau State said this new development will pose hard times as they now have to close businesses early because ‘keke Napep’ has been the major means of transportation within Jos and environs. You will recall that the government of the past administration has earlier banned the use of motor cycle(Okada) within the ‘Grater Jos Master Plan’ and this has been in effect ever since, bringing to the use of Commercial Tricycle popularly known as keke napep within the city.
