The riverine town of Ugbo in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo
State was at the weekend thrown into chaos leading to the burning of
more than 20 houses and vandalism of property worth millions of naira in
the town.

The crisis, which lasted for two days, was occasioned by a
chieftaincy tussle between two royal families in the town, allegedly led
to the killing of an unidentified man in the town.

The fighting followed attempts by one of the royal families in the
town to challenge the selection and appointment of Oba Fredrick Obateru
as the Olubo of Ugboland. The clash, sources said, was between
supporters of Oba Obateru and a former occupant of the stool, Adebanjo
Mafimisebi.

During the fracas that ensued, Daily Sun reported that buildings, vehicles, boats and other valuables were set ablaze.

It was gathered that a middle aged woman, Bidemi Mafimisebi, and others were injured during the clash.
