A dispute between the family of late Hollywood actor Chadwick Boseman and his widow, Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman, has extended to a documentary being developed about the late Black Panther star.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Ledward Boseman is working with production company Words + Pictures on the documentary and is seeking a deal with Searchlight Pictures to produce the project.
The widow said the proposed deal was structured on a “Most Favored Nation” basis, which would provide equal treatment to both sides of the family. She claimed identical paperwork was sent to the respective family members.
However, Ledward Boseman alleged that members of Chadwick’s family requested separate agreements from the production company.
She further claimed that she has consistently consulted the Boseman family on projects connected to her late husband’s legacy, while alleging that some family members have not extended the same courtesy to her.
The documentary dispute comes amid a broader legal battle over Chadwick Boseman’s estate.
His brothers, Derrick and Kevin Boseman, have asked a Los Angeles court to remove Ledward Boseman as administrator of the actor’s estate. They allege that the estate has not been fully distributed and have raised questions about her management of assets and rights connected to their brother’s legacy.
Ledward Boseman has rejected the allegations. In recent court filings, her lawyer argued that she had complied with the court’s orders and had gone beyond what was required of her.
She also said she had paid more than $1.7 million to Chadwick’s parents since 2022 and voluntarily provided $300,000 from her own funds to the children of Derrick Boseman.
Her legal team also stated that the widow had worked to preserve Chadwick’s legacy through projects including the Chadwick Boseman Foundation for the Arts, a production of his play Deep Azure and the documentary project.
Chadwick Boseman died in August 2020 at the age of 43 after a private battle with colon cancer. He was widely known for portraying King T’Challa in Marvel’s Black Panther and also starred in films including 42, Get on Up and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
The documentary’s title and release date have not been publicly announced, while the dispute over control and administration of Boseman’s estate remains before the court.
