Chairman of the Plateau State chapter of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Shindol Aaron, confirmed their release in a telephone interview, saying they were freed on Wednesday night.
Aaron disclosed that he received confirmation of their release from relatives who went to pick them up.
According to him, the victims had already been placed in a vehicle heading back to Jos when he received the information.
He said the two individuals regained their freedom between 9pm and 10pm after spending time in the kidnappers’ custody.
Aaron also addressed reports that the kidnappers had been arrested, saying he had received information about their possible arrest by security operatives but had not independently verified it.
He added that he was yet to meet the victims personally or establish direct contact with them following their release.
The victims were among nine persons travelling in a vehicle when gunmen attacked them along Riyom on Monday night. The group was returning to Jos after receiving information that their training programme in Benue State had been postponed.
While seven occupants reportedly escaped during the attack, the two victims were taken away by the gunmen, who subsequently demanded a ransom of ₦50 million for their release.
