A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State, Yilchini Jan Bida, has rejected the outcome of the party’s governorship primary election held on May 21, 2026, describing the exercise as a “sham” riddled with irregularities.
In a press statement issued on Saturday, Bida said he was rejecting in totality the results announced at the APC State Secretariat which declared his opponent as the winner of the primary election.
The retired military officer alleged that the process was manipulated and failed to reflect a credible democratic exercise across the state’s 17 local government areas.
According to him, accredited agents from his campaign arrived at the APC State Secretariat as early as 7:30 a.m. on election day but no electoral activities took place for several hours.
He further claimed that the exercise was later secretly moved to Crispan Hotel where election materials were allegedly distributed without the knowledge or participation of his agents.
Bida also alleged that in many parts of the state, party faithful and coordinators waited throughout the day at designated venues without the arrival of electoral officials or voting materials.
The aspirant stated that he personally travelled to his ward in Nemel, Kanke Local Government Area, to cast his vote but was unable to do so because no officials or materials arrived.
He further alleged that while voters were stranded, what he described as pre-fabricated results and staged counting videos had already begun circulating on social media.
Questioning the authenticity of the declared figures, Bida argued that the results displayed patterns that were “excessively uniform and mathematically synchronized,” which he said did not reflect genuine human voting behaviour.
Drawing from his background as a forensic accountant, he cited globally recognised statistical principles, including Benford’s Law, to support his claims that the figures were manipulated.
He also alleged that neither he nor any representative of his campaign was invited to witness the official declaration of the results at the party secretariat.
Bida called on the National Working Committee (NWC) and leadership of the APC to urgently intervene and investigate what he termed widespread irregularities that compromised the integrity of the Plateau APC governorship primaries.
He, however, appealed to his supporters across the state to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding while lawful and constitutional steps are pursued to seek redress.
