The Benue State Bureau for Education Quality Assurance (BEQA) has launched an investigation into a viral video showing a musician, identified as Egyptian Cairo, performing a song with “indecent lyrics” before students at a school.
The musician’s performance, reportedly featuring vulgar and inappropriate language, has drawn widespread criticism from parents and community leaders, who condemned the act as morally unacceptable and called for accountability from the organisers.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, the Director General of BEQA, Dr. Terna Francis, said preliminary findings traced the incident to Foundation College, Abeda Shitile, in Logo Local Government Area.
Dr. Francis described the performance as a “serious violation of ethical and moral standards” expected in learning environments, warning that such acts undermine the principles of quality assurance in education.
“While we acknowledge the importance of holistic education across cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains — including creative expressions such as music — vulgarity, indecency, and immorality have no place in our schools and will not be tolerated under any guise,” the statement read in part.
He urged calm, assuring that a full-scale investigation is underway to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident, with findings to be forwarded to the Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management for appropriate action.
Dr. Francis reaffirmed BEQA’s commitment to upholding moral discipline and academic excellence across all schools in the state, in line with Governor Hyacinth Alia’s vision for a value-driven education system.
