Former federal lawmaker, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, who represented Bayelsa East Senatorial District, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his decision to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Murray-Bruce made the announcement on Wednesday in a statement personally signed and shared on his Facebook page.
Praising President Bola Tinubu’s administration, the former senator said Nigeria was, for the first time, being led by a president who truly understands finance and the principles of a free-market economy.
“For the first time in our nation’s history, we have a President who truly understands finance, who sees the economy not as a political slogan but as a living organism that must be disciplined, deregulated, and allowed to breathe,” he said.
According to him, the economic reforms currently being implemented, though painful, form the foundation for future prosperity. He also lauded the administration’s progress in national security, economic stability, and infrastructure development.
“Insecurity is being quietly and systematically dismantled. The Central Bank, now professionally steered, is stabilizing the economy, rebuilding confidence, and restoring the dignity of the naira,” he stated.
Murray-Bruce added that President Tinubu’s infrastructural initiatives — from roads and ports to airports and housing projects — are transforming Nigeria’s growth landscape.
“I know it is still a difficult season for many families. But as history teaches, reform is never painless. Yet, it is in these moments of sacrifice that nations are reborn,” he said.
Explaining his decision to join the APC, the media entrepreneur and politician said, “I am joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), not for politics, but for progress. I believe that Bola Tinubu’s leadership, guided by courage and intellect, will deliver the Nigeria we have all dreamed of.”
He expressed confidence that within an eight-year period, Nigeria would experience “phenomenal growth” under President Tinubu’s leadership.
His defection comes on the heels of a similar move by Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, who, alongside his cabinet members and local government officials, also dumped the PDP for the APC on Wednesday.
