A Nigerian Army officer, Lieutenant Felix Ademe Isaac, who was killed during an operation to rescue abducted teachers and pupils in Oyo State, has been laid to rest with full military honours.
The 28-year-old officer died while leading troops involved in the rescue mission for victims abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The abductees regained their freedom on Friday, July 10, following a joint security operation.
Reports on the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death have varied. While some accounts said his convoy struck explosives planted by terrorists in the National Park area of Oyo State, others claimed he stepped on a landmine allegedly planted by members of the Ansaru terrorist group, which has been linked to the abduction.
Born on August 25, 1997, Lt. Isaac was buried on July 10, 2026, at the 23rd Armoured Brigade Cemetery in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, where he received full military honours.
The rescue operation that secured the release of the abducted teachers and pupils also claimed the lives of other personnel, underscoring the risks faced by security operatives in ongoing efforts to combat insecurity across the country.
The successful operation followed months of coordinated efforts by security agencies to secure the victims’ release.
