Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a 29-year-old anchor with Arise News, has died following a robbery incident at her residence in Katampe, Abuja.

The tragic event occurred in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025. Her passing was confirmed in a statement issued by Arise News management and signed by Hadiza Usman-Ajayi.

“It is with heavy hearts that the management and staff of the ARISE News Channel announce the passing of our beloved colleague, News Anchor, Reporter and Producer, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu,” the statement read.

The organisation described Maduagwu, fondly called Sommie, as a cherished member of its family whose vibrant voice connected with viewers across Nigeria and beyond.

“Beyond the airwaves, Sommie was a lawyer, a professional and supportive colleague, and a friend to many. Her voice is now silent, but her spirit, passion, and legacy will endure as part of our collective memory,” the statement added.

Arise News extended condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones, while urging the police to ensure a thorough investigation that will lead to the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.
