Nigerian music star Burna Boy has been named the number one Afrobeats artist of 2025 by global streaming platform Spotify.
The latest ranking, released on Monday, features an all-Nigerian top five, underscoring the country’s dominance of the genre. Rema secured second place, Wizkid came third, while Asake and Roc Nation’s newest signee, Ayra Starr, completed the top five.
Conspicuously absent from the ranking is Davido, who is widely regarded as part of Afrobeats’ “Big 3” alongside Burna Boy and Wizkid.
Spotify also published data on global Afrobeats consumption, with the United States emerging as the top market. Other leading consumers include Brazil, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Nigeria.
