The trial of Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver involved in the fatal road crash that injured British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua and killed two members of his team, has been adjourned to November 17, 2026.
Kayode is facing charges arising from the December 29, 2025 crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
The crash involved the Lexus LX570 in which Joshua was travelling and resulted in the deaths of his close friends and members of his team, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele. Joshua sustained injuries in the accident but survived and was subsequently discharged from hospital.
Kayode was initially charged in January 2026 and appeared before a magistrate’s court in Ogun State. The charges include allegations relating to reckless and dangerous driving.
The court proceedings have been adjourned several times as the case progresses. In April, the court adjourned the trial to June 2, following developments in the case.
The truck driver whose vehicle was involved in the crash was also subsequently charged after the Ogun State authorities reviewed the circumstances surrounding the accident.
The latest adjournment means the legal proceedings will continue in November, with the court expected to further consider the allegations against the defendant.
The crash had a significant impact on Joshua’s plans, temporarily delaying his return to boxing. He eventually returned to the ring in July 2026, defeating Albanian heavyweight Kristian Prenga in Riyadh.
Joshua is also currently linked to a potential heavyweight bout against Tyson Fury, although the proposed November fight has yet to be fully finalised.
