An officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has been killed during a drug enforcement operation in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, in Anguwan Zango, Tilden Fulani, where NDLEA operatives were conducting an operation targeting suspected illicit drug use and dealing.
According to reports from residents, the officers arrested a young man suspected of drug use and attempted to take him away when other youths in the area resisted the arrest.
The confrontation reportedly escalated, during which one of the youths allegedly attacked an NDLEA officer with a sharp object, stabbing him in the stomach.
The injured officer was rushed for medical attention but later died from his injuries. His identity had not been publicly released at the time of reporting.
Following the incident, the NDLEA Bauchi State Command launched a manhunt for the suspected attacker. The agency also released a photograph of the wanted person and appealed to members of the public with useful information to assist investigators in locating him.
The incident highlights the risks faced by law-enforcement personnel during operations against illicit drug activities, particularly when suspects or members of the public attempt to resist arrests.
