Security operatives have responded to the discovery of a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) at the General Hospital in New Bussa, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The device was reportedly discovered on the hospital premises on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, raising concern among patients, staff and other people within the facility.
According to reports, a security officer at the hospital noticed the suspected device and alerted the police and other security agencies.
Explosive ordnance personnel were subsequently deployed to the hospital, where they secured the area and rendered the device safe before taking it away for further investigation.
Security personnel, including police officers and soldiers, were also deployed around the hospital as a precautionary measure, while access to parts of the facility was temporarily restricted.
The development caused anxiety among people at the hospital, although authorities were able to bring the situation under control without any reported explosion or casualties.
Normal activities have since resumed at the facility, with security reportedly strengthened around the hospital.
Authorities have not disclosed who may have placed the suspected explosive device at the hospital or the motive behind its presence. Investigations are ongoing to determine how it got onto the premises and whether it was connected to any planned attack.
The discovery comes amid continuing security concerns in parts of Niger State, particularly communities around the Borgu axis, where security agencies have recorded incidents involving improvised explosive devices in recent months.
