Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi is celebrating a major career milestone as he prepares to make his 100th appearance for the Nigerian national team.
The 29-year-old is expected to reach the landmark when the Super Eagles face Portugal in an international friendly in Leiria on Wednesday, becoming one of the few Nigerian players to achieve a century of caps.
Iwobi, who made his senior debut for Nigeria in 2015, described the achievement as a proud moment in his career, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to represent the country over the years.
“I am proud to be where I am today; proud to wear the green-and-white,” he said, adding that he has “no regrets” about choosing Nigeria despite previously representing England at youth level.
He made his debut in a friendly against DR Congo in October 2015 and has since become a key figure in the Super Eagles setup.
Iwobi highlighted his decisive goal against Zambia in 2017, which helped secure Nigeria’s qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, as one of the most memorable moments of his international career.
“I loved the occasion because my dad and mum were both in the stadium to see it,” he recalled.
He also noted that while he would have loved to win the Africa Cup of Nations or play at more World Cups, he remains proud of his journey with the national team.
Iwobi’s father, Chuka Iwobi, also expressed pride in his son’s achievement, praising his commitment and consistency for Nigeria since his debut.
The milestone places Iwobi among a select group of Nigerian internationals to reach 100 caps, underlining his long-standing contribution to the Super Eagles.
