Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has confirmed his intention to contest the 2027 general elections, declaring that he will not run as a vice-presidential candidate to anyone.

Obi made this known on Sunday night during an X Spaces discussion, where he dismissed speculations about his political future ahead of the next election cycle.

The former Anambra State governor stated that he has gained extensive experience in governance and leadership and would not settle for the position of vice president.

“I am not travelling round the world to learn governance to be vice president,” Obi said. “I know how to turn Nigeria around. I built my business from scratch and have more experience than any candidate, including the sitting president.

“Peter Obi will be on the ballot in 2027. I need your support. I need your prayers.”

In the same interaction, Obi also addressed reports suggesting that he plans to formally join the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He clarified that he does not need to defect to the party, as he has been part of the ADC-led coalition from its inception.

“I am not joining ADC. I can’t re-join what I am already a part of,” he said. “I’ve been part of the coalition from day one.”

Obi further dispelled claims that any political figure within the coalition was stepping down for him, stressing that all members have agreed to work collectively.

“Nobody is stepping down for me in ADC. We have all agreed to work together,” he added, while noting that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar remains a respected leader within the coalition.

Obi’s comments have added clarity to his political stance ahead of the 2027 elections, amid growing speculation over alliances and party alignments.
