Social commentator and businessman Isaac Fayose has disagreed with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his prediction concerning the outcome of the 2027 presidential election in Abuja.
Fayose, a supporter of Peter Obi, made the remarks on Tuesday during an appearance on News Central TV.
Wike had recently expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu would secure victory in the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State in the 2027 presidential election.
Reacting to the statement, Fayose insisted that Obi would retain the support he secured in Abuja during the 2023 presidential election.
“Abuja is NDC, Abuja is Peter Obi,” Fayose said, referring to Obi’s current political platform, the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
In the 2023 presidential election, Obi, who contested under the Labour Party, won the Federal Capital Territory with 281,717 votes, while Tinubu polled 90,902 votes, according to reported election results.
Fayose also raised concerns about the conduct of the 2027 election, alleging that the opposition would have to guard against attempts to manipulate the electoral process.
He said the major concern among supporters was whether there would be efforts to suppress votes, adding that they were preparing for such possibilities.
The businessman further argued that public opinion should play a greater role in understanding voters’ preferences ahead of elections.
His comments come amid increasing political activity and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with politicians and political groups already positioning themselves for the presidential contest.
